How it works & FAQ
Why this is secure?
Your PDF is compressed entirely within your browser. Pages are re-rendered at a lower image quality using HTML5 Canvas — no file is uploaded to any server, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
Step-by-Step Guide
- 1Click 'Select PDF File' or drag and drop your PDF into the upload area.
- 2Choose a compression level: Low keeps quality high, High shrinks the file as much as possible.
- 3Click 'Compress & Download' — the smaller PDF saves directly to your device.
Common Questions
How does PDF compression work here?
Each page is re-rendered onto an HTML5 Canvas and saved as a JPEG image at a lower quality. This significantly reduces file size but converts text layers to images, so text won't be selectable in the compressed file.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
Results vary by content. PDFs full of high-resolution photos can shrink by 60–80% on High compression. PDFs with mostly text or already-compressed images may see less reduction.
Will the compressed PDF look different?
At Low compression the difference is barely noticeable. At High compression, fine detail and sharp edges may appear slightly blurry, especially at high zoom levels.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No — password-protected PDFs cannot be read or processed by this tool. Remove the password first, then compress.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no server-side limit since everything runs locally. Very large PDFs (100+ MB) may be slow depending on your device speed and available memory.
Compression happens inside your browser's sandboxed JavaScript environment. No file content or metadata is ever transmitted over a network connection.
